All Change!!! Apologies for the interruption in service but we have had a bit of a change around.
My name is Jon Legge. I have been a member of CIAT for many years but have only in the last few years been involved with our Regional Committee, which has been a rewarding and exciting time trying to keep up with Mark Wilson, my predecessor.
Thanks Mark – you have done a great job and, fortunately for me, I still have him looking over my shoulder!
Similar thanks and salutations are due to our two retiring committee members, Mark Kennett, Past President and Nik Wilson, who has held more posts than I have had hot dinners!! We have relied on their expertise and advice for the last couple of years and owe both our profound thanks and admiration. Many Thanks, Guys – keep coming to our CPD meetings!
Talking of which, we have our annual light-hearted but highly informative Legal Update from Rob Langley at the Mercure Hotel, Wetherby NEXT WEEK – Tuesday 20th October 7 for 7.30pm. Hope to see you there – please book using the webpage system
Following that we are planning a talk by expert Oliver Heath on Biophilic Design – design that includes and embraces Nature and natural features, to be held on Tuesday 8th December – check the Yorkshire CIAT webpage for the venue.
After that there is the ever popular Building Regs Update delivered by Martin Conlon of Assent BC on Tuesday 19th January 2016 at 7pm, The Holiday Inn, Wakefield. Again, keep checking the CIAT Yorkshire webpage for current information.
Our feedback from Members is that the Regional Webpage is a great success and is proving to be very useful. I. for one, find it is a big help to keep up with events and we want to make even more use of it so, if anyone has any ideas or suggestions, please share them with us or come along to our meetings. Any members are always welcome and they are posted on the site. The next one is on Monday 23rd Nov 2015 at 6 for 6.30pm.
We are planning our second CPD Day which is hoped to be held in May next year – slightly earlier than 2015 but will follow the same format that proved so popular and successful earlier this year. Look out for notifications!
We are encouraging far closer links with our Universities and our Architectural Technology students – hence the collaboration with Leeds Becketts for the CPD Day. Our students are our future and, in a sense with BIM and 3D design tools, we are all finding a whole new world out there! Unfortunately, Huddersfield University is not progressing with Architectural Technology but Sheffield Hallam and Leeds Becketts are both well attended and we want to ensure that students are fully aware of CIAT and the benefits of membership.
We also want to spread our Yorkshire meetings a bit further than in recent times. We held a presentation from Ibstock on the Durability of Brickwork that was very informative and introduced a new venue at the office of M3 in Sheffield. The event was well attended and a great success. We hope to do it again so look out for further notifications. As well as going into South Yorkshire, we want to be able to go North and East as well. We can’t all get to central Yorkshire locations so we are on the look-out for venues in York, Northallerton, Doncaster, Selby, or anywhere else that can cater for about 30-40 people, with easy access, car parking. We will arrange the CPD subject and all notifications so, if you have a location, please let us know.
This is our Institute and I want to improve our links with members all over our Region. Please make the effort and come and see us soon. I look forward to meeting you.
