Hard to believe but it’s nearly the end of my two year tenure as Regional Chairman, so welcome to what will be my penultimate ‘Note’; hoping that you feel somewhat more enlightened as to what the Institute does, and how it does it, if you didn’t before.
There are three important issues on which to focus this month
Regional and Centre Summit
This has been a long term goal of mine since I started with the committee, and I am delighted to be able to announce that this event will be held at the Novotel at Birmingham International Airport on Wednesday 17 June, where up to two representatives from each UK Region or Centre will gather to exchange ideas and best practice related to member engagement. A sort of a conference to try and determine better what switches members on, and importantly what switches members off about the Institute – What are we getting right, and what are we getting wrong – You might find this hard to believe but some Regions don’t communicate with their members at all, or even organise events for them attend – Can you believe that!!!
I will be co-chairing this event with our President Elect Gary Mees, and Jon Legge (our current Vice Chairman) will be presenting on behalf of the Yorkshire Region. If you would like him to report anything that we are doing that works for you, or things that we are not doing that you believe could work, or be done better – as ever, I invite you to let us know. Hopefully you know by now that we are not above criticism, and welcome open and honest comments and ideas.
A whole day of Continuing Professional Development – Thursday 11 June’15 – LBU Rose Bowl
Last year we sent you a survey that sought to establish what you wanted from our Regional events, and how we could improve upon the current offering. Well, we listened – One of the questions asked whether a complete day of organised high quality CPD would be an attractive proposition? 70% of you responded positively; so we have organised a CPD day to end them all: In conjunction with Leeds Beckett University we have convened 25 presentations, spread into 5 sessions throughout the day. You can actually build your own personal programme of CPD and learning and record five of your required annual 35 hrs. in one day.
Because this event is of such high quality, we have also elected to throw it open to all our associated Institutes (RIBA, RICS, CIOB, CABE and CIBSE) to showcase our own Institute and profession.
There are 300 seats available across the five theatres to allow you to experience your five presentations. There will be tea and coffee throughout the day, and a light lunch available to morning delegates; and ALL of this is FREE – Gratis – absolutely No Charge – What’s not to like?
You can only attend this event by pre-booking on the Regional web site. You will find a detailed brochure on the days event timings, content and speakers, to help you plan your day. We have also developed a special booking page, complete with drop down selection menus so you can build your CPD programme.
I do hope we will see you there for some, or all of the day.
The new Yorkshire Region Linked-In Group
Are you on Linked-In? Please come and join us.
This is perhaps something that we might have done sooner. But, better late than never. – Okay, why do we need yet another ‘Linked-In’ group? – These groups are good at providing an open forum for, but not limited to, debate, notification and discussion. The group will be monitored and will only be open to CIAT members (all grades). We can talk about Institute ‘stuff’ at Regional level. We can ask questions about local issues. Advertise, discuss and review events. Advertise jobs or student placements. Comment or complain about…….? – Just keep it respectful and of course professional.
Join the new Regional Linked-In Group and find out a little more about what’s going on.
All the best
